Questions to ask when considering an upholstery cleaning company:
What kind of training does the upholstery technician have?
- Are they an IICRC certified firm? Look for them at www.IICRC.com.
- Is the technician a master textile cleaner? Again look at the website www.IICRC.com
- What certifications does the technician have? Look at their IICRC certification card?
What kind of equipment and process do they use?
- You can see our equipment and process below.
- Look in their truck when they get to your home, is it clean, sanitized? Is that someone you want in your home?
What price are they advertising, what are the potential extras once they are in your home?
- The price we quote on the phone is the price we charge. Our prices are less than our competition (professional upholstery cleaners) which creates an outstanding value.
- Our philosophy is to have a fair, straightforward price for excellent work. If a company is offering extras you reject, how good is the cleaning?
- Is the technician on a salary or do they receive significant commissions?
- It costs around $50 to rent a machine with cleaning agents, if you think someone can clean a couch and loveseat for $59, we are not the right company for you.
Overview of our upholstery cleaning process.
Upholstery cleaning requires the technician to understand the furniture, materials and expectations of our customers. Todays furniture is typically durable and comes with stain protectors. These protectors help in the removal of spots but do not prevent soiling of the furniture.
Our process starts off with our pre-inspection. Typically, we review the furniture with our customers to get as much background information as we can. Fabric identification can be very complicated with upholstery since blends are often used. Also the backings can complicate the process when performing fabric identification tasks. Bleeding, or colors blending with other colors are always a concern with upholstery. The bright vibrant colors can create complications in cleaning. Through our pre-inspection and testing, it is our responsibility to provide you with the best process to meet your needs.
Preparation
Prior to beginning our service, we prepare your home by protecting your environment. We begin by putting our equipment on drop cloths. We set up wall corner guards, which will prevent hoses from damaging paint or wall coverings. A door jam, which is a padded vinyl, is attached to your entry door.

Our upholstery cleaning process is based upon the principles of cleaning which are outlined below.
- Soil Suspension
Soil suspension is a term used to describe the process of separating the soil from the upholstery fiber. This can include soil from food, pets, children, shoes, grease, oils as well as a host of other things.
Pre-conditioners - Pre-conditioners are used to separate soil from the fiber. The pre-conditioners help loosen the soil from the upholstery fibers. This is the first stage to remove the dirt that is embedded in the fabric.
Agitation - Agitation is a component to soil suspension. Most cleaning processes (i.e., a washing machine) spend a considerable amount of time on this function. We use a specially designed upholstery brush to agitate the fabric. Depending on soiling conditions, our technicians must use their experience and knowledge to determine the appropriate amount of agitation.
Time - After agitation, we let the pre-conditioners work for 10-15 minutes. This gives us the right time to let the pre-conditioners work their magic and separate the soil from the upholstery fibers.
- Soil Extraction
After the soil is suspended from the upholstery fiber, it is critical that it is removed. There is no debate that a high-end truck mount machine is the best method for soil extraction for all situations that hot water extraction is appropriate. The water pressure, heat and vacuum power are overwhelming compared to any other technique. This provides for maximum soil removal and drying times.
